Convert AVIF to PNG
Free, fast, and secure tool to convert AVIF to PNG instantly without losing transparency.
How to convert AVIF to PNG
Convert your AVIF images to the universally compatible PNG format in three simple steps — all within your browser.
Select AVIF Image
Pick an AVIF file from your device. The file stays securely on your machine — nothing is uploaded to any server. Your privacy is fully protected throughout the entire process.
Click Convert to PNG
Simply click the convert button. Your browser decodes the AVIF data and re-encodes it into a lossless PNG file with full alpha channel transparency preserved pixel-by-pixel.
Download PNG
Preview your converted image on a transparency checkerboard, then download your PNG file. The result is universally compatible with every application, browser, and operating system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tool completely free?
Yes! File Gulp provides completely free file conversion tools with no hidden fees, no watermarks, and no registration required.
Are my files safe?
Absolutely. Unlike other converters, File Gulp uses modern WebAssembly technology to convert files directly on your device. Your files never leave your computer, ensuring maximum privacy.
Does it work on mobile devices?
Yes, our tool is fully responsive and works perfectly on smartphones and tablets, directly from your mobile browser.
Will the quality be affected?
No, we use high-quality algorithms to ensure your output files maintain the best possible quality during conversion.
Is there a file size limit?
Very large files may be limited by your device memory/browser performance. For normal image sizes, conversion is fast and seamless.
What is AVIF?
AV1 Image File Format (AVIF) is the next-generation image format based on the AV1 video codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media. It delivers state-of-the-art compression, typically producing files that are 20-50% smaller than WebP and up to 50% smaller than JPEG at equivalent visual quality. AVIF supports a wide range of advanced features including HDR (High Dynamic Range), wide color gamut, film grain synthesis, and full alpha channel transparency. Despite its efficiency, AVIF support is still not universal — some older applications, design tools, and legacy platforms may not yet support it, which is where converting to PNG becomes essential.
Why convert to PNG?
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is the gold standard for lossless image compression and the most widely supported image format on the internet. Every modern browser, operating system, image editor, and design application can open and process PNG files without any compatibility issues. PNG uses a lossless compression algorithm based on DEFLATE, ensuring that every pixel of your original image is perfectly reproduced in the output. It fully supports an 8-bit alpha channel for transparency, making it ideal for logos, icons, overlays, and any image that requires a transparent or semi-transparent background. When you need guaranteed compatibility across all platforms and tools, PNG is the format you can always rely on.
Full Transparency (Alpha Channel) Preservation
One of the most critical aspects of converting between image formats is ensuring that transparency data is not lost in the process. Both AVIF and PNG natively support the Alpha Channel, which stores transparency information for every pixel in the image. Our converter transfers this alpha data with absolute fidelity — no white backgrounds are added, no transparency is flattened, and no quality is sacrificed. The checkerboard pattern displayed in the result preview accurately represents the transparent regions of your converted PNG file, so you can verify the output before downloading.
- Pixel-Perfect Transparency: Our Canvas API conversion draws the AVIF image directly onto the canvas without any background fill. The alpha channel is preserved exactly as it exists in the source file, ensuring fully transparent pixels remain fully transparent and partially transparent pixels retain their precise opacity values.
- Lossless Quality Output: PNG uses lossless DEFLATE compression, meaning your converted image will be a bit-for-bit perfect reproduction of the original AVIF visual data. No color information, no edge detail, and no transparency data is lost during the conversion process.
- Universal Compatibility: Unlike AVIF, which may not be supported in older browsers, legacy applications, or certain design tools, PNG is universally compatible. Your converted file will open correctly in Photoshop, GIMP, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email clients, social media platforms, and every web browser ever made.
- Browser-Native Processing: The entire conversion happens in your browser using the Canvas API. Your AVIF file is decoded by your browser's native AV1 decoder, drawn onto an in-memory canvas, and then exported as a PNG using the Canvas
toBlob('image/png')method. No data leaves your device at any point.
